A free library that turns JSX into an image inside your own Next.js or edge function.
If you are on Next.js or Vercel and happy writing the card in JSX, @vercel/og is free, fast and runs right next to your pages — use it. We make sense when the layout needs CSS it does not support, when the text is not Latin, or when your site is not JavaScript at all.
| What | @vercel/og | Image API |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free library, your compute | From free, then $9 for 2,000 |
| Template language | JSX (React) | Plain HTML and CSS |
| CSS support | A subset — flexbox; grid is still arriving | Everything Chrome renders |
| Where it runs | Next.js and edge runtimes, 500 KB bundle limit | Any stack, one HTTP request |
| Fonts | You bundle and load them | Pick from our list |
| Thai, Arabic, CJK text | Known layout problems | Rendered by a real browser |
@vercel/og pricing (free, you pay for the function that runs it) comes from their own public page, checked 2026-10. If something has changed — tell us and we will fix it.
You are on Next.js, your design fits in flexbox, and you would rather not depend on another service.
You are on Rails, Django, WordPress, Hugo or Ghost, your design already exists as HTML and CSS, or Satori keeps breaking your layout.
You rewrite the template once, as HTML and CSS. Preview costs no quota, so getting the layout right is free. Then you swap a single call on your side.
